These illnesses decimated indigenous populations, who had no immunity to them, leading to catastrophic mortality rates. Alongside disease, violent conflicts and displacement due to European colonization further exacerbated the decline of Native American societies. Together, these factors contributed to significant cultural and demographic upheaval.
