On a number line x=3 is a dot and x=-2 is a dot that is measure the distance each is from zero, respectively.

On an (x,y) graph they would be vertical lines crossing the x-axis at the appropriate places.

Is the electromagnetic spectrum's wavelength scale linear or non-linear?

It's an absolute measure (like a ruler), you are not comparing it, in relation to anything else. So linear.

Is y equals 8 a linear equation?

No, y=8 is a fixed value. A linear equation would look something like y=x+8 - That would produce a straight line graph if the values of x & y were plotted against each other on a graph.

Why is frequency not linear?

Which frequency? Frequency in Hertz can be accepted as linear frequency. What is non linear is usually the method of "presenting" it, like a non linear logarithmic scale. Also there is the matter of angular frequency defined as w = 2*π*f, where f is linear frequency (Hz or s^-1).

What does the graph of the equation 2x-3y equals 6 look like?

The equation 2x - 3y = 6 is a linear equation and a linear equation is always has a straight line as a graph

What is 5y plus 1.8 equals 4y-3.2?

Looks like a linear equation to me, and a ridiculously easy one at that.

Is -1 equals xy a linear?

You mean -1 = xy , right? If we think of y against x, then it's like y = -1/x .... It's not linear. But if we consider y against 1/x , it's linear....

What would 21000 feet of lineal foot of fencing be?

The statement "21000 feet of lineal foot of fencing" is incorrectly worded. At some point in time someone decided that LINEAL was a descriptive word that should be used to describe a unit of measure. Lineal refers to ancestry or heredity - so the definition of a "lineal foot" would mean someone's foot (like your grandmother) that is related to you. The correct term for measurement is actually LINEAR, i.e., one (1) linear foot equals twelve (12) inches. Linear feet and feet are the same measurement. Therefore, 1 foot equals 1 linear foot.

Would you probably find a scale of 1 inch equaling 1500 miles on a map of a city state or world?

Sure. That would be OK.16 inches on the map would represent (16 x 1500) = 24,000 miles, roughly the earth's circumference.16 inches or a little bit bigger to represent the whole surface of the earth, cut up and flattened out ...that's reasonable.

How are functions like linear equations?

Most functions are not like linear equations.

Please explain y equals a plus b times x where x equals machine hours?

Y=A+BX; X=machine hours. Sounds like a linear regression. 3x - y = 5 x + 3y = 5
