No, not necessarily. The resulting fraction could still be simplified.

For example, if I take 1/4 + 2/8. The Lowest Common Denominator is 8.

2/8 + 2/8 = 4/8

But 4/8 is not the simplest form. 1/2 is.

How can knowing the GCF and LCM help you when you add subtract and multiply fractions?

Knowing the LCM will help when adding or subtracting unlike fractions. By finding the LCM of the denominators, (called the lowest common denominator) you can convert unlike to like fractions and proceed with the adding or subtracting. Knowing the GCF helps reduce a fraction. By finding the GCF of the numerator and the denominator and dividing both of them by it, you can reduce a fraction to its lowest terms (simplest form). If the GCF is 1, the fraction is in its simplest form. You can successfully multiply fractions without knowing the GCF or LCM.

What are simplest form for fractions?

If the GCF of the numerator and denominator is 1, the fraction is said to be in its simplest form.

What is simplest form-?

Fractions in their simplest form cannot be reduced. If the GCF of the numerator and denominator is 1, the fraction is in its simplest form.

Why is it helpful to write a number as a product of primes?

Because it helps in reducing fractions to their simplest terms and finding the lowest common denominator when adding or subtracting fractions

How do you write improper fractions in simplest form?

An improper fraction is already in it's simplest form as long as in the fraction part the denominator is bigger then the numerator.

How do I do simplest form on fractions?

Find the GCF of the numerator and the denominator. Divide them both by it. If the GCF is 1, the fraction is in its simplest form.

How do you figure simplest forms of fractions?

If the numerator and denominator of a fraction have a common factor (except for '1'), divide both numerator and denominator by their common factor. The fraction is in the simplest form when the numerator and denominator have no common factors.

What is the term called for simplest form for fractions?

The term for the simplest form for fractions is "lowest terms". If the greatest common factor of the numerator and the denominator is 1, then the fraction is in lowest terms.

How do you calculate the sum of fractions?

If the fractions do not all have the same denominator, find a common multiple of the denominators (ideally the lowest common multiple) and convert the fractions to equivalent fractions with this denominator. Now with all the fractions with the same denominator, add together the numerators. Finally, reduce the fraction to simplest terms, converting any improper fraction to a mixed number.

How do you write fractions in simplest form?

Find the GCF of the numerator and the denominator and divide them both by it. If the GCF is 1, the fraction is in its simplest form.

How do you change fractions into simplest form?

Find the GCF of the numerator and denominator and divide them both by it. If the GCF is 1, the fraction is in its simplest form.

How do you make a simplest form in fractions?

Find the GCF of the numerator and the denominator and divide them both by it. If the GCF is 1, the fraction is in its simplest form.

How do I write fractions in their simplest form?

How do you work out fractions in their simplest form?

Find the GCF of the numerator and the denominator and divide them both by it. If the GCF is 1, the fraction is in its simplest form.

What is simple form fraction?

SIMPLEST FORM fractions are fractions that have a denominator that is not divisible by the numerator 3/9 (pretend it is a fraction) can be simplified because both 3 and 9 are divisible by three, creating 1/3, which is in simplest form.

How does knowing the gcf of a number help us with fractions?

If you divide the numerator and the denominator of a large fraction by their GCF, the result will be the fraction in its simplest form.

How do you make improper fractions into the simplest form?

Find the GCF of the numerator and the denominator and divide them both by it. If the GCF is 1, the fraction is in its simplest form.

Which of the following fractions is also a repeating decimal?

Any fraction which, in its simplest form, has a denominator which has a factor other than 2 or 5.

What do you do when you're going to subtract fractions but the numerator is the same?

Whether the numerators are the same or not, you need to get the denominators to be the same. First, find the least common denominator. Then convert the fractions to equal fractions that use the common denominator. Then you can subtract the fractions by subtracting the numerators. Finally, look for common factors between the numerator and the denominator of the difference in order to put the answer in simplest terms.

How is greatest common factor related to fractions?

When you are trying to reduce a fraction, if you divide the numerator and the denominator by their GCF, you will end up with a fraction in its simplest form.
