When designing a cow pen how many square feet does one cow need?

Depends on the size of the "cow," and the use for that pen. A small calf only needs 50 ft2, whereas a large cow is better off having a 500 ft2 pen. The pen has to accommodate where the animal is going to sleep, eat, drink, and move around. The drinking area cannot be in the same location as the area where the animal eats, and the sleeping area has to be somewhere where the animal gets shelter, and also not where it sleeps or drinks.
