They're south of Bristol and Bath - in Somerset, England
The Mendip Hills were formed by the upfolding of sedimentary rocks during the Variscan Orogeny around 300 million years ago. This geological event created a series of anticlines and synclines, shaping the landscape we see today. Erosion over millions of years further sculpted the hills into their current form.
Cheddar Gorge is on the south side of the Mendip Hills in Somerset. It starts from the village of Cheddar and the B3135 road winds up through the base of the gorge onto the top of the Mendip Hills.
