At just over 77,000 m2, Buckingham Palace is the world's largest "working" royal palace.

The Istana Nurul Iman (Palace of Light) is the world's largest residential palace used for state functions. It is the residence of the Sultan of Brunei and is located to the South of the city of Brunei.

The Forbidden City is the largest palace complex, but it is in fact 800 different buildings.

The total area of the complex is 720,000 m2, but the huge courtyards of the complex are included in that figure , so the axctual area of the buildings is probably smaller than the Istana Nurul Iman.
