How do you wire a pull switch on a hard wire ceiling light that has no switch?

Two options. Change the fixture to a keyed pull-chain, or add a pull-chain adapter to the existing fixture. Both available from Home Depot and others for about $3.

Can I take a bulb out of my led lamp to save energy or will it damage the lamp or the other bulbs?

Taking a lamp out of any light fixture will save energy, though it might be hard to see things in the dark. The lamp will not be damaged without lamp being in the fixture.

How do you know if an outlet box can support a ceiling fan?

Most light boxes are not rated to support a ceiling fan. If you look at the box you should be able to see some marking on it telling you that it is rated for ceiling fans. Another way to tell is to look at the size of the screws that are used to mount the fixture to the box. In ceiling fan boxes the screws will be #10 in light boxes they will be #8. A common way to mount ceiling fans securely is to mount the fan onto the framing member directly. Since the light box is usually mounted to the structure of the building it is usually not too hard to mount the fan directly to the building structure too, and not to the light box.

How do you convert a plug in fixture to a hard-wired fixture?

Disconnect it from the hard wired source and install a male plug on the fixture. Small blade is black hot, wider blade is white neutral.

Can you convert a 2 prong plug-in light into a hard wired fixture?

Sure, sounds like a creative way to use an old favorite table-top fixture and save a few bucks too. There would be a few things I would consider. First and foremost, be sure the "2 prong plug-in light" is made for outdoor use if you plan to mount this outdoors! Secondly, how are you going to securely mount this fixture to a ceiling or wall? Designing a custom base, may end up being more trouble than it's worth. After installation the fixture should be flush against the surface, and everything tucked inside. Next, I wouldn't forget, or leave out the ground. Even it is a 2 prong light. If your going to mount this on a wall, ceiling, or anywhere, chances are you already have a hole cut out and "2-conductor with ground" Romex type wiring ready at the instillation area. Where to attach the bare ground wire, maybe too risky if the fixture is not an metal chassis. Note: Assuming that there will only be one fixture on this branch circuit, then go with a gauge of Romex similar to that of the fixture cord. If using many in series or parallel , reference a NEC handbook for detailed guidance.

Is there a siren that can be screwed into the light socket of a motion activated light fixture?

None that I know of, but if you can find a separate siren unit that is powered by 120 volts and in the 5 amp range, it can be hard wired into the motion light.

How do you wire smoke detector?

When something is hard wired, it is wired directly to the house wire. No cord. You just install the smoke detector like you would a light fixture or an outlet.

What is the cost for an LED ceiling light fixture?

Normally a light fixture can use either LED, CFL, Halogen, or Incandescent bulbs unless otherwise specified on the fixture. LED bulb prices are coming down but they are still very expensive. If the fixture is mounted so high it is hard to get to then an LED would be a good choice. Of if you plan to live in the home for over 10 years then an LED makes sense. Otherwise a CFL or Halogen bulb may be a better choice at this point in time. I suspect you will see the price of LED bulbs come down drastically in the next couple of years. Might be better the wait awhile as of right now 1/2014 the cheapest 60 watt equivalent 10 watt LED bulb will cost you around $10. But you also have to consider the savings in electricity which is a factor. The choice is yours.

How hard is it to install ceiling fans with lights?

It's quite simple if you're comfortable with tools and can follow the simple directions that will come with the fixture when you purchase it. The job will require at least two people, though, and preferably more, since the fan will be heavy and awkward to handle.

I insulated the ceiling between an upstairs apartment and it didn't seem to stop any sound from traveling through. Am I better off installing a new framed out ceiling an inch or so lower than the existing ceiling or are there more effective methods?

Installing a new framed out ceiling would probably work best but its hard to say without seeing your set up.
