-Good for local business because goods can be transported via the river

-Tourist attraction for the town, so therefore is good for local business, as there are more potential customers brought to the area

-Resource for leisure activities, such as fishing, kayaking, canoeing, water polo etc.

-Supply fish to local restaurants and shops.

NEGATIVE:

-During times of heavy rain, the rivers banks can burst and flood the town

-Polluted rivers have negative effect on local people for reasons listed in 'positive'.

-Polluted rivers give towns a bad name.

-Contributes to natural water cycle

-Habitat for a lot of wildlife

NEGATIVE:

-Polluted rivers are harmful to wildlife living in and near the river
