Though no single person discovered calculus, there are many who contributed to its development as a branch of mathematics.
Many ancient cultures show evidence of using simpler mathematical methods comparable to what we consider modern calculus. ancient Egypt, Greece and China each dabbled in the concept, though their methods were not always correct or significant.
Modern calculus is often accredited to Sir Isaac newton, though Gottfried Leibniz was the first to publish any work on the subject. A rivalry developed between the two, resulting from disputes over who derived the work first.
