Thales of Miletus (pronounced tahl-es), also known as Thales the Milesian (ca. 624 BC-ca. 546 BC), was a pre-Socratic Greek-Phoenician philosopher and one of the Seven Sages of Greece. Many regard him as the first philosopher in the Greek tradition as well as the "father of science." Thales also was the first to see charges in effect. by rubbing amber with fur he had laves and feathers flying towards the amber.

Many, most notably Aristotle, regard him as the first philosopher in the Greek tradition.[1] Aristotle reported Thales' hypothesis about the nature of matter -- that the originating principle of nature was a single material substance: water.

He developed the idea that all natural events have underlying natural causes, and there was no need or use in resorting to mythology for explanations, a view that subsequently underlay western science.

∙ 9y agoThales was a Greek philosopher who came up with the originating principle. The originating principle was basically the idea that all matter was a single substance which Thales thought was water.
He also came up with the circular theorem ( known as the Thales theorem) which says that if the base of a triangle is the diameter of the circle, the points where the height of the triangle meets the circumference will be a right angle.
