World War was mainly between European countries. The axis forces were trying to take over the world and they consisted of Japan, Italy and Germany. The allied powers consisted of Great Britain, France, South Africa, Poland, Greece and China. After Japan attacked pearl harbor on December 7, 1941 the U.S. joined the war, with Canada on its side. Russia (the Soviet Union) was in a neutral state with an agreement to not engage in war with Germany but Germany betrayed that to become a world power and Russia ended up joining the allied forces as well.
