If you are terming your drill as more powerful in the ability to twist through tough materials you have to look at the output speed of the chuck. The older drill motors were geared lower to produce more torque. With this gearing the HP of the drill motor and hence the amperage could be smaller. New drills today use less gearing and more HP. The higher HP of new drill motors, to do the same work as the older drills, is reflected by the higher amperage draw.

What is a example of a pneumatic system?

Pneumatic systems rely air pressure to cause something to move. One simple example is the tyres of a car. Air pressure raises the car from the roadway. Dentist drills are pneumatic; electricmotors are too big and heavy. Road drills are pneumatic; they are very simple and more powerful than an electric drill.

Are seed drills used today?

Yes. Seed drills still have to be used to sow seed in the fields. Some folks prefer seed drills (like the packer drills) to air seeders because of the power that the packers have when sowing seeds, like grass seeds, which grow best when the soil is packed down moderately when sown.

How many amps should an 18-volt circular saw draw if you want it to have equal power to a corded saw?

It is not possible to answer the question with any specificity because of a lack of info, but perhaps the following will get you on the right track. Electric motors -- on pool filters, vacuum cleaners, drills, saws, whatever -- can be rated in either amps (A) or horsepower (hp) or watts (W). While horsepower and watts are units of power, an amp is not. But if you know the voltage, you can calculate the power in watts, since watts are just amps times volts. If a motor is energized by 18 volts and draws 1.5 A, it's power consumption is 27 W (18 x 1.5). To convert watts to hp, just remember that one hp equals 746 watts. So if your corded saw is rated at, say, 0.25 hp, that's the equivalent of 186 W. Dividing that by 18 volts yields 10.36 A. DAMN, that's a lotta current!

What are the benefits of electric corded versus battery-operated cordless power tools?

I love using battery operated drills but I never run out of power when I use corded drills-- I don't have to charge one and use one and I don't have to spend $70 for each battery, and I don't have to worry about spending $45 more for battery chargers when workers crush my charger. However: I must say Cordless Drills also Rock if you hate to be swinging cords over your shoulder all the time.
