Not quite sure what you mean by "types of math", but basically, "a single type of math" simply wouldn't allow us to handle all the engineering and scienctific problems that require math. Different problems require different types of math; you just can't use only addition (for example) in all situations. There are cases where you need addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, as well as whole numbers, fractions, decimals, exponentiation, factoring, differentiation, integration, calculations with matrixes, and many more - and that includes real-world applications, not just "pure math".
