Two expressions on both sides of the equal sign are equivalent to one of them changing sign when switched over to the other side. For instance:

5x = 3x + 10

Is equivalent to:

5x - 3x = 10

That means that you can very well "combine" them, if you don't forget to switch the sign. As it were, you would be switching it over and combining in a single step.

What is the answer to this equation -6 n -30?

Just to get you straight, that is actually an expression. Equations have equal signs in them. Just so you know. Anyway, it just so happens that this expression (-6n - 30) is already simplified. There are no like terms to combine there, since 30 does not have an "n".

What is a group of terms that are separated by an adding or subtracting signs it does not contain an equal sign?

That's a polynomial expression.

How do you simplify 21t plus 14-12t-30?

You can combine like terms - combine the terms that have a "t" in them; separately, combine the terms that don't.

How do you add like terms?

To add like terms, find the terms that have the same (or no) variable, and combine the coefficients of the terms. For instance, if you have a+b where a and b are real numbers, you can combine them.

When you combine like terms you are able to?

There is nothing that you can do when you combine like terms that you cannot do without combining them. Some procedures might be easier, though, if like terms are combined.

How do you solve this equation using the quadratic formula 4 3x 20-5x?

It isn't clear exactly what the equation is; equal signs and some other signs disappear in the questions on this site. Convert the equation to the form ax2 + bx + c = 0. That is, change everything over to the left side, to leave only a zero on the right; also, combine different terms, and place the terms in descending order (according to the exponent of "x"). Then use the numbers in the positions "a", "b" and "c" in the quadratic formula.

What does the action in addition mean?

To combine terms

How do you combine unlike terms?

Unlike terms are terms in an equation that are different. These terms cannot be combined. Like terms, however, can be combined.
