this is because of air resistance which increases with surface area of feather. however if there is no air resistance (only vacuum) both feather and ball will fall together.

Why does a feather falling through the air slower than a brick?

Wind resistance. In a vacuum, feathers and bricks fall at same speed.

Why would a feather and an elephant fall at the same time in a vacuum?

Because a feather has more air resistance, it normally falls slower, but in a vacuum, there is not air resistance so they fall at the same rate. Think of it as a feather and an elephant falling in space.

What are some examples of air resistance and gravitational force?

1. when you drop a feather and a hammer the feather falls slower than the hammer

What force that makes a feather drop slower than a hammer on earth?

Air resistance.

Greatest velocity of a falling objecy?

The greatest velocity any object can have on earth is it's terminal velocity. That means when the force of gravity is eventually overcome by the force of air resistance of the falling object. An example of this would be that a falling feather reaches its terminal velocity much quicker (and therefore falls much slower) than something that is more dense and aerodynamic, such as a bowling ball or a baby.

Will a car and a hat falling at the same height hit the ground at the same time?

no unless in a totally controlled condition because a feather falls slower than a brick air resistance and many other factors are taken into affect it can also depend on the weight of the hat, and the angle of the hat when dropped.

Why do lighter objects fall slower than heavier objects?

In a vacuum. like in outer space, all substances fall at the same rate. Here on earth, the rate of falling is influenced by air resistance. A feather has 'way more air resistance than a ball of steel, for example, so falls slower.

Why is the stopping distance slower on a dry road?

frition force act on it
