A pyramid is a generic term which is used to describe a 3-dimensional shape that consists of a polygonal face (normally called the base) with n sides, and n triangular faces (called lateral faces) attached to each edge of the polygon and meeting at an apex above the base.

A pyramid, whose base is an n-sided polygon has n+1 faces, n+a vertices and 2n edges.

Only the tetrahedon has 4 axes of symmetry. Most pyramids have none.
