The M25 is an orbital motorway designed to re-direct traffic travelling from one side of London to the other. It is an extension, at a far greater radius, of the pre-existing North and South Circulars.

Although it is much longer (117 miles) than other examples of orbital motorways in the UK, it isn't unique - Manchester, for example is encircled by the M60 as is Birmingham by the M5/M6/M42.

The longest orbital motorway is the A10 around Berlin, at 124 miles.
