Most countries in the world use the metric system.

Only three countries-Burma, Liberia, and the US-have not adopted the International System of Units (SI, or metric system)

The metric system is much easier to use than the imperial system

because everything works off base 10

so easy calculations

eg

10 millimeters to a centimeter

10 centimeters to a decimeter (not used often)

10 decimeters to a meter

10 meters to a kilometer

Basic Metric system

10^12 - Tera

10^9 - Giga

10^6 - Mega

10^3 - Kilo

10 - Unit

10^-3 - Milli

10^-6 - Micro

10^-9 - Nana

10^-12 - Pico

put at end: eg Gigabyte, Kilogram, Megawatt

Bytes (computer memory)

Watts (energy)

liters (liquids)

grams (mass)

It is simple, logical, globally accepted. I see no reason why the US wouldn't want to use it.

Standardization.

The rest of the (intelligent) world is using the metric system and a global standard (metric) will prevent confusion and promote understanding of units.
