Why is 3 not a composite number?

The only factors or divisors or 3 are 1 and the number 3 itself. The definition of a prime is a number whose only factors are 1 and itself so 3 fits this definition.

Any composite number can be broken down into a product of primes. If you try, you will see there is not product of primes that equals 3.
