The word, "decimal" means "of, or having to do with tenths".

If you were working in base 8 instead of decimal, it would be called "octal", which means "of, or having to do with eighths".

If you were working in base 16, it would be "hexadecimal" or "sixteenths".

If you were working in base two, it would be "binary" or "twos".
