(1 yard)3 = (3 feet)3

(1)3 x (yard)3 = (3)3 x (feet)3

(1)3 = 1

(3)3 = 27

So 1 yard3 = 27 feet3

You're hiking out in the woods one day, and there in a clearing you find an amazing

object . . . a perfect cube of polished wood that's exactly 1 yard long, 1 yard wide,

1 yard high. It's beautiful and perfect. You decide to take it home with you and show

it around. But it's so heavy, there's no way you could carry it out in one piece.

So you decide to take your chain saw and carefully cut it up into 1-foot blocks.

You make 3 cuts all the way through between the sides, 3 cuts all the way through

between the front and back, and 3 cuts all the way through between the top and

the bottom.

Think about that for a while, and count up how many 1-foot blocks you have to

carry from the clearing out to your pickup.
