Let's say you have any 2 non-zero whole numbers x and y.

So x2 and y2 are square numbers.

if you multiply them: x2 * y2 = (x*x)*(y*y).

Since multiplication is commutative, rearrange to get: (x*y)*(x*y) = (x*y)2

which is also a square number
