Why isnt 1 prime or composite?

1 is neither prime nor composite because

Eratosthenes decided that it was nor prime nor composite because 1x1 is 1, but then again,1x any other number is that number, so one can go into every number before and after infinity. Confusing right? Try looking up on Wiki the guy Eratosthenes.
