To say the year zero is a contradiction, because a year is something, so it cannot have the number zero and then have the second year as one. You do not have the zero of any thing. Thinking there was a year zero led to the common misconception that the 20th century and 2nd millennium ended on the 31st of December 1999 and the new century and millennium began on the 1st of January 2000. The truth is that 2000 was the last year of the last century and last millennium and 2001 was the first year of the current century and millennium. However there was no year zero, just like there is no zero day of a month. You go straight from the end of one month into the beginning of the next. There is no day between them. So immediately after 1 BC was 1AD not 0AD, because zero means nothing.
