colonies came about, when nations decided to take control of part, or all, of another area of land. Usually they sailed around the oceans discovering new countries and taking control of only a part of that country. Often they offered the owners of the land, just trinkets, or blankets or some other cheap items which the primitive people would like to have, in exchange for the freedom to occupy that land with their own people. Countries such as England took control of a part of Another Country, and gave it the name 'Colony'. It was really just theft or trickery, and sometimes the use of guns to scare the owners away. The English, Dutch, Spanish, and Portugese were nations that created many Colonies by the process of using their intellect and weapon power to take control . In many cases they eventually stole more and more land and controlled the activities of the original owners, and sometimes used them as cheap labour, to earn profit for themselves. In the twentieth century, some of these lands which were stolen, were returned to the original people's after they had civilized them and shown them how to run a modern society. Sometimes the stolen colony , benefited greatly by the education and knowledge that was given to them by the aggressors. In other cases such as America, the original inhabitants and tribes were shot and killed by the thousands. This unjust behavior has 'come back to bite them' in many cases . Governments now hand out huge sums of money to the original owners , to appease them and to avoid further racial conflict. Modern humans are now far more ethical, humane and compassionate than we were 2 or 3 centuries ago. All modern nations now work together to prevent injustices and try to avoid war and improve living standards of undeveloped nations .
