You can't SOLVE something unless it's an EQUATION. You have to know what x2-9 is equal to.

Do you mean x2 - 9? You can FACTOR x2 - 9 into (x + 3)(x - 3).

If your equation is x2 - 9 = 0 then (x + 3)(x - 3) = 0, and the solution of that is

either x = 3 or x = -3

f(x) = x2 - 9 is the equation of a quadratic equation. It's solution set comprises infinitely many points on the parabola x2 - 9. There is not a single, or even a finite number of solutions which can be given in answer.
