Typically in these math questions you will have two equations.
Both equations will have, lets say an x and y value. Two unknown variables.

Take the first equation and rearrange it so that you isolate one of the variables, lets say x.
To isolate x, arrange the equations so that x is on one side, and every other number is on the other.

This expression is equal to x.

Take this expression (all the numbers on opposite side of the side where the x is), and plug it into the second equation. That it, where ever the x appears in the second equation, replace it with this expression.

Solve for y through simple algebra.

Now, take the y value you solved for and plug it into one of the original equations. That is, replace the y in the equation with this number. Solve for x through algebra.

The x and y values you receive are known as the solution.
