33 divided by 3 is 11
11 x 2 = 22
so phillipp is 22

That is what the answer USED to be.
Let me explain to why it's wrong.
First of all, here's the question asked CORRECTLY in a way that it would make sense.
Richard is 33 years old today. 33 is 3 times the age Philip was back when Richard was the age that Philip is today.
In other words, Philip was 11 when Richard was Philip's CURRENT age.
I don't get where the hell he got the 2 from, but anyway, the answer to the question is -
Too little information. It just tells you that Philip was 11 years old when Richard was Philip's current age. The 33 has absolutely nothing to do with it but confuse you. Either way, the question is either missing a few facts or the answer is simply 'Too little information; no answer; etc.'

I agree. Too little info. you can put phillip was 11 when Richard was his current age. it is too little info especially if you have currently been studying that kind of possibility or have already covered it answered other questions like that.

Although I do agree that there's too little info to call that a proper question, you can still find the answer by guessing around, and it's twenty-two.
Richard was 22 when Philip was 11 (so they have an eleven year difference.)
Now Richard is 33, and thus Philip is 22.
Makes sense.
But I had to like guess and stuff to reach that and the question is asked in a stupid way, quite honestly.
Sally is 10. To solve: Let's use as variables the letter j for Joe's age today and s for Sally's age today, and try to solve for s. Start by expressing what we know about the relationships of Joe's and Sally's ages as equations. Joe (today) is 5 years older than Sally (today): j = s + 5 Joe in 15 years will be 3 times Sally's age (today): j + 15 = 3s Begin solving the two equations simultaneously by replacing the j in the second equation with its value from the first; then solve for s: j + 15 = 3s s + 5 +15 = 3s [since j = s + 5] s + 20 = 3s 3s = s + 20 [just reversing the equality] 2s = 20 [subtracting s from both sides] s = 10 [Your answer! Sally's age today.] Now solve for Joe's age today (j), and check the answer: j = s + 5 [given] j = 10 + 5 [substituting the solved age for Sally] j = 15 [Joe's age today!] Checking we see that Joe's age is 5 more than Sally's; and we see that in 15 years, Joe's age of 30 is 3 times Sally's age today of 10. Success!
223 days from today (November 4th) will be June 15th, 2009. (The 16th if it was a leap year.)
50. The algebraic expression is 8x = 400 Divide both sides by 8.
Oh, dude, you're really hitting me with the tough math questions today, huh? Well, technically, 3 times 9 equals 27. But like, who really needs to know that stuff when you have a calculator on your phone, am I right? Math, schmath, am I right?
