The square root of 8 is 2 square root 2. Then, when you divide by 2 you are left with square root 2. Hope this helps.

While the above answer gives you the quick answer, I wanted to expand upon why the square root of 8 = 2√2 (since I hadn't had algebra in awhile when I went looking for this Q&A, and I'm sure that there are others out there that are thinking..."okay, you're telling me 8 = 2√2, but how did you come to that answer?".

So, I thought I'd take the time to explain it.

√8 is the same as saying √(2 x 4), since 2x4=8, right? [Another way to write it is (√2)x(√4)]

Since the square root of 4 is 2, you can pull that out from under the √ and put it to the left.

Therefore, you have 2√2.

Now, as stated above, you have to divide this by 2, so the 2's in the numerator and the denominator cancel and you're left with √2.
