It's not. it is an algebraic expression (or a polynomial) containing TWO terms that are not like terms. You can notice it easily in the word itself, "bi" means two.
In algebra collect like terms means combining the like terms together. It can be done with the help of variables, powers and the terms which have like properties. When collecting like terms the corresponding sign of a particular number will carry with the term.For Example:Combine the like terms and simplify the expression 2x + 8y +2 + 4x + y + 1SOLUTION:The given expression is 2x + 8y +2 + 4x + y + 1The terms in the given expression is 2x, 8y, 2 , 4x, y, 1.Now combine the like terms with the help of variables.Collect 2x and 4x together, 8y and y together and the constants 2 and 1 together.The simplified answer for the given expression is= 2x + 8y +2 + 4x + y + 1= 2x+4x +8y +y + 2+1= 6x + 9y +3

A mathematical expression does not have an answer, if it is algebraic and all of the terms are unlike. For example, x+7y does not have an answer because there are no definite solutions, and there is no possibility to combine like terms. However, the expression 2x+7y+3x does have an answer, but the solution is merely the combination of like terms. (5x+7y)
If you have a expression that goes; 2x + 5x etc etc Simplifying the like terms is 7x 2x and 5x are like terms, but 2y and 2x are not. The variable needs to be the same.
When you have an expression you have to simplify by eliminating all grouping symbols and combining like terms.
