What are x axis?

On a graph paper, a horizontal (number) line is the x-axis.

Correspondingly, on the same graph paper a vertical number line is the y-axis.

Where these two axes meet (intersect) is named the origin and given the coordinates ( x,y) ; ( 0,0)
