It's difficult to exactly translate as like all Arabic words it's heavily context dependent.

It means something like 'spirit' or 'imp' though Afreets can be either good or bad. Also similar to the word djinn in English if this helps

Afreet/عفريت can be used as a word to refer to the devil, Satan or jinns. It can be also used as an adjective to exaggerate the 'dirty' intelligence of someone or to describe the evil intent of someone.
