2/8 + 3/5
Addition of fractions.
Steps to take.
#1 reduce any fraction ( 2/8 = 1/4) (NB Always reduce numbers to their smallest values; much easier to handle).
#2 bring to a common denominator of 20 ( 4 x 5)
#3 bring the numerators to equivalent values , by 'cross multiplying' 4 & 5'
Hence 1 x 5 = 5 & 3 x 4 = 12
#4 add the numerators 5 + 12 = 17
#5 place over the common denominator 17/20
(#6 check to see if fraction will reduce ; in this case ; NO; since '17' is a Prime number).
Laid out
2/8 + 3/5 =
1/4 + 3/5 =
[(1 x 5) + (3 x 4)] / ( 4 x 5)
[ 5 + 12 ] / 20
17/20
Done!!!!
So the answer is 17/20
The sum of 3/8 and 2/5 is 31/40
x/2 = x/5 + 1 5x = 2x + 10 3x = 10 x = 3 1/3
If the questions asks: (3)/(4x+2) = (5)/(4x-6) then x = -(7/4)

3 and 5/6 plus 2 and 2/8 = 6 and 1/12
3 1/4 + 2 3/5 = 5 1/5
1/5 plus 1/5 which equals 2/5 or 0.4.
2 3 over 20
2 over 3
5/6 + 2/3 = 1 1/2 or 1.5
1/3 + 2/5 = 11/15
-3/2 + 8/5 = 1/10
