Easy answer: 2 sqrt(6) or about 4.898979

24 is not an even square, so let's break 24 down into prime factors:

24 = 2 * 2 * 2 * 3

Every time we see a number multiplied twice (squared), that number can be "pulled out" from underneath of the square-root sign once.

24 = 2 * 2 * 2 * 3

You'll have to excuse the notation; I can't insert a square-root sign.

sqrt(24)

sqrt(2 * 2 * 2 * 3)

2 * sqrt(2 * 3)

2 sqrt(6)

This answer still contains a radical sign. A decimal approximation of this number is 4.898979
