Well, honey, the square root of a negative number like -9 isn't a real number because in the real number system, the square root of a negative number isn't defined. You gotta step into the world of complex numbers if you wanna play with those imaginary roots. So, in short, the square root of -9 is as real as a unicorn riding a rainbow.

The square root of a negative number is not a real number because in the real number system, the square of any real number is always non-negative. Since the square root of a number is defined as the number that, when multiplied by itself, gives the original number, it is not possible to find a real number that, when squared, equals a negative number such as -9. This is why the square root of -9 is considered a complex number, denoted as 3i, where i is the imaginary unit defined as the square root of -1.

Well, let's look at this like a happy little tree. The square root of a negative number, like -9, is not a real number because when you multiply any real number by itself, you always get a positive result. But don't worry, there's a beautiful world of complex numbers where we can explore and create new possibilities together.

For the same reason that the square root of ANY negative number is not a real number.Real numbers are positive, negative, or zero.

* The square of a positive number is a positive number.

* The square of a negative number is a positive number.

* The square of zero is zero.

In other words, in no case will you get a REAL number whose square is a negative number. The square roots of negative numbers are said to be "imaginary" - a name given for historical reasons. They are just as "real" or "unreal" as the so-called real numbers, but the point is that they are a different kind of numbers.

The square of every negative or positive real number is positive. Therefore the square root of a negative number cannot be real.
