The simple answer is power from ignition switch to backup light switch to bulbs to ground. But then of course GM does not wire their vehicles that way any more.
So from Computer to sensor to computer that then grounds a relay in the power centre the relay is also tied to power and runs the back up lights
ORThe body control computer talks to the tail and brake light control module that turns on lights.It all depends on the year and model of the car
