Depending on the student. Standard Algebra/Geometry 3(Junior-level mathematics) completes the book in four semesters, covering one problem set every two days. Some students complete it in either 2 or 3 semesters, with respectively 30 or 20 problems in a problem set every night. The main difference is not the amount of homework but the pace that material is covered.

example: On Monday, a teacher covers most of the material in ps. 30 and on Tuesday ps. 31. Each night for homework the student would do problems 1-20 on the corresponding set. On Wednesday, the student will do problems 20-30 on both problem sets giving an extra day to reinforce material.

There are several reasons this is done:

The Advanced Mathematics books goes at a relatively fast pace (compared to Algebra 1 and 2) with half as many 'review' problem sets, so new material starts early. Many problem sets have either many notes or long notes and many times it is difficult for students to catch up with all the new material.

Many times a single problem takes 5 minutes just because of the nature of the material, so with a full problem set you could be looking at up to 1 1/2 hours of homework a night which is too much for math alone.

So if someone is willing to spend lots of tem each day doing and studying math, then they could finish the book in one year. If someone doesn't have much time on their hands or isn't very good at math, then a much slower pace would be suggested.
