Mathematics can be described as a language, in that learning higher-order formulas and terms must first be defined before any practical application of those formulas and terms can be used appropriately, so some reading is usually required. However, the amount of reading in a mathematics course generally pales in comparison to a generic language arts course. In short, no.

In martial arts why do you call someone master?

Calling someone "Master" is a common in Martial Arts. It's more a sign of respect than of subservients. However, it is debatable by some.
