Let n be the number whose prime factors we so desire to know. Required knowledge: All prime numbers less than sqrt(n).

Test n for divisibility by each such prime numbers, starting with 2:

If a Prime number, p, is found to divide n, divide n by p, record p and continue (test for divisibility by p again) using n/p in the place of n.

The recorded prime factors are the prime factors of n.
