Add the numerator to the product of the whole number and denominator, and write that over the denominator.
For example:
2 3/5 = (2x5 + 3)/5 = 13/5
4 5/7 = (4x7 + 5)/7 = 33/7
Multiply denominator to the whole number then add it to the numerator then the answer will be the numerator then copy the denominator
Example:
4 5/7
7*4=28+5= 33/7
remember just copy the denominator
so..
4 5/7 = 33/7
I'll give you an example since it is hard to just TELL you.
17/8 [How many 8s are in 17... there are 2 since 2x8=16 therefore your whole number is 2]
2 ... [Now what is your fraction... how many do you have left over. take away 16 from the 17... well there is 1 left over so you put 1/8 as your fraction
2 1/8 [this is your final answer to 17/8]
2 1/8 = 17/8
Here is another example
28/3 [How many 3s are in 28... there are 9 since 3x9=27 therefor your whole number is 9
9 ... [Now what is your fraction... how many do you have left over. take away 27 from 28 and you have 1 left over so you put 1/3 as your fraction]
9 1/3 [this is your final answer to 28/3]
9 1/3 = 28/3
Here is last example. It is a large one.
54/5 [How many 5s are in 5... there are 10 since 5x10=50 therefore your whole number is 10]
10 ... [Now what is your fraction... how many do you have left over. take away 50 from 54 and you have 4 left over. so you put 4/5 as your fraction]
10 4/5 [This is your final answer to 54/5]
10 4/5 = 54/5
If its not an improper fraction then you cant....
You do the numerator divided by the denominator, then simplify the fractions if you can. (this is how you change a improper fraction to a mixed number, you cannot change a proper fraction to a mixed number)

I don't think you can but, you can change an improper fraction to a decimal.
First you would want to change the mixed number to an improper fraction. Then you can subtract
If its not an improper fraction then you cant....
You change them into improper or topheavy fractions.
You change it into an improper fraction, then simplify it, then if you want to, change it back to a mixed number.
I wouldconvert both to improper fraction, find a common multiple (CM),calculate equivalent fraction with CM as the denominator, add the numerators, change the improper fraction to a mixed fraction, if required, simplify the fractional part of the mixed fraction - if appropriate and required.
