In 1965 a billion was officially defined in the UK (not English) parliament as a thousand million. That was more than 50 years ago so the answer give by "df df" is hopelessly out-of-date! And that ignores the extraneous 9 in his definition of an American billion.
Furthermore, his answer ignores the fact that the question asked about "one billion pounds" - not just "one billion". If it is a billion pounds in mass, the numerical value should be followed by "lbs". If it refers to the UK currency, is should be preceded by GBP. If if refers to a pound currency for some other country, then there are other 3-character codes which identify the currency according to ISO 4217: for example EGP for Egypt, LBP for Lebanon, SDG for Sudan.
One billion.
One billion, four hundred ninety-three million or 1.493 billion.
144,000,000,000 is one hundred and forty-four billion
To write out 1,100,000,000,000, you would start with "one trillion" followed by "one hundred billion" in numerical terms. This is because each group of three zeros represents a new term (thousand, million, billion, trillion). Therefore, the number is read as "one trillion one hundred billion."
One billion five hundred million
1,000,000,000
1,000,000,000
500,000,000
1,000,000,000
To write a quarter of a billion in figures, you would represent it as 250,000,000. This is because a billion is equivalent to one thousand million, so a quarter of a billion would be one-fourth of 1,000,000,000. Therefore, a quarter of a billion is 250 million, which is written as 250,000,000 in figures.
