The least common multiple of 14 and 21 is 42.

Look at the multiples of 14. They are 14, 28 and 42.

Now clearly 14 and 28 are can't be multiples of 21 also so throw them out as candidate for the LCM. However, the next number. 42 is 21x2.

We know there is no smaller common multiple because 21x1 did not work so we are done.
The LCM is: 42
