Answer

Your mother is no doubt into menopause and her periods have ceased. During menopause the hormones are very touchy and some women can have high estrogen, while others very low. Hormone Replacement can help, but should only be used on a short-term basis, because using it for long-term can cause breast cancer, blood clots, and heart attacks or strokes. There is no correlation that Hormone Replacement (HRT) helps with Osteoporosis or strengthens the heart. Have a heart-to-heart talk with your mother and have her see her doctor.

Symptoms of Menopause: Discoloration of the skin (brown spots on the face or sometimes other parts of the body), moles can appear; mood swings; depression; hot flashes (feeling hot one minute and cold the next) weight gain, becoming bloated. These are but a few symptoms and not all women get them all.
