We comunicate just because the human needs. The human race wouldn't be able to live without communication and one human wouldn't be able to live just with animals, because life of humans consists in cooperation with others of the same race.

We communicate to know the status of others (nowadays it would be more simple: how is the other living; health, education, etc.). We also communicate to send or receive information, such as a warning, or just news. Communication nowadays allows certain information to go through a population, for example commercials and publicity.
