Think of this trick. "Kangaroos Hop Down Mountains Drinking Chocolate Milk." The first letter of each word stands for a measurement. Kilo, Hecto, Deca, Meter (or liter or gram), Deci, Centi, Milli. You take the measure you want to convert (In this case milliliters) and see how many spaces to the left liters is. In this case it is 3 so you move the decimal point 3 spaces to the left. So 490 milliliters equals .490 Liters.

1 l is equivalent to 1000 ml and 1 l/1000 ml = 1.

So we can write 200 ml as (200 x 1) ml.

i.e. 200 ml = (200 x 1) ml

In place of 1 we can write 1 l/1000 ml and we get:

(200 x 1) ml = (200 x 1 l/1000 ml) ml = 200/1000 l = 0.2 l

Unit ml cancels out and we get 0.2 l.
