Traditional Caribbean ratio for Rum cocktail is:
1 of sour
2 of sweet
3 of strong and
4 of weak.
Traditional Rum Punch, for example, would be mixed with 1 part (13oz) lime juice, 2 parts (26oz) simple syrup, 3 parts (38oz) Rum and 4 parts (51oz) water, juice, etc.
Totalling 128 oz, or 1 gallon.
This renders a cocktail that has some punch (pardon the pun) but without being too deadly. From this ratio, you can strengthen or weaken to your liking.
If you like coconut, sure.
* Mojito - cocktail made from rum, sugar, lime juice, carbonated water and mint. It is a sweet and refreshing cocktail, with a minty citrus flavour and a strong kick of the rum. * Daiquiri - made by filling a cocktail shaker with ice, rum, lime juice and sugar syrup. It is then shaken well and strained into a chilled cocktail glass. * In the US they make a drink from rum instead of sugarcane to emulate Caipirinha - Brazil's national cocktail - which is made with cachaça, sugar and lime.
