The CPU's calculation or processing speed has been measured in Hertz or; more specifically; megahertz or MHz that is one million (106) cycles or processes in one second. The measurement of fastness or speed I think is this unit. Newer (since approximately 2000) CPUs have gone into gigahertz or GHz which is one billion (109) cycles or processes in one second. terahertz or THz are one trillion (1012) cycles... per second and petahertz are one quadrillion (1015) cycles... per second. So when a friend asks how fast my computer is; I would say, "Three gigahertz.".
