Word has very limited capabilities to creating charts. You can use the Insert feature and choose charts from it. It will present you with a very basic spreadsheet, into which you can enter numbers to use on your chart. You could also draw some charts manually using shapes, though they may not be very accurate. One of the best ways is to create the charts in Excel and then copy the chart into the Word document.
You can use MS Excel to create a graph from data in the spreadsheet or from an external source. You also can display a graph with MS Powerpoint. MS Word can display a graph, but usually does not create it.
