If the server dies, the computers get unseen for each other. It isn't a good idea in every situation to leave the whole network to only 1 computer, because if it ets an error, your network is dead.
Well there are not many disadvantages that I know of about the star Topology. I think this the most widely used topology today but as we say everything has 2 sides so this topology although having many plus points have some disadvantages as well..Some of the few are ::
A few disadvantages of star topology are as follows :
We need not solve the disadvantages of the star topology. The better alternative would be to switch to another topology according to your requirements.
This topology consist of a central node to which all other nodes are connected by a single path. It has some advantages as well as disadvantages , some of the disadvantages are :.1) Long cable length is required in star topology.
2) The addition of a new node to star topology involves a connection all the way to the central node.
Too much of Cabling is done...
Too many access points
The disadvantage of using a bus topology is that a break in any of the connecting cables will bring down the entire network segment. The disadvantage of using a star topology is limited to the central connecting device; it is breaks, the entire network goes down.
Star topology.
Star Topology
Star topology is very common; chances are any company you can think of (big or small) is using a star in their LANs somewhere within the company.
The most common LAN topology is that of a "star." In a star topology, each computer, or "node", is connected to a central hub. This is more reliable than a more classical "ring" topology, because a node failing will not bring down the entire network. A bus topology is arguably more reliable, but has poorer performance.
The "star" topology is the most common.

Star Topology, where Hubs can act as repeaters.
Star topology is one of the oldest topology

cat5, cat6, utp, stp cables etc.
Scalability and reliabillty of star topology makes it the best, easy to remove or add a device.
