The acids in sodas (especially colas) are useful for cleaning and even etching some metals. Phosphoric acid is also useful for absorbing Calcium -- although it's not really good for long-term or frequent consumption. It seems like more than coincidence that the number of diet drink consuming, middle-aged women suffering from osteoporosis is at an all-time high.
